San Luis Obispo High School

The focus of Measure D was on the two comprehensive high schools. Both high schools were in need of a great deal of work to bring them up to the 21^st century standards for education. Projects began in 2014 and were completed in January 2024.

Annex Building/New Math Building

The former Annex building (cafeteria, classrooms, and activities office) was demolished to make way for a new twelve classroom math building. Upon inspecting the former Annex building, we quickly realized it was not going to be able to be modernized to new building standards. The new math building has added additional classrooms to the campus and recently won an architectural award. The building also includes new student and staff restrooms.

Building 300 – Career Technical Education

The wood shop, welding/manufacturing/architectural building, and agriculture building were all completely gutted down to the studs and modernized to state of the art facilities. New student and staff restrooms have also been added to the middle building of the 300 Wing, along with a new computer lab.

All three facilities have received new furniture, machinery and technology through Measure D, the general fund, and Career Technical Education funding.

New Gym

The newer gym on campus was completely renovated. The locker rooms and restrooms were modernized. The gym received a new roof, heating and ventilation systems, paint, flooring, lights, and electric systems. No more buckets on the gym floor during basketball and volleyball games! The foyer to the gym was also remodeled with new flooring, paint, and ceiling tiles.

Old Gym

The former "Old Gym" was a boys' locker room on one side and weight room on the other. The actual gym itself held the oldest bleachers in California and, needless to say, needed major upgrades. The entire gym has been painted and the floor sanded and resealed. The former weight room side is now a new band room with practice spaces. The band also has a new storage room for instruments and uniforms.

The former boys locker room is now a beautiful gym/work out facility for all students and teams. It has the look and feel of a private gym and includes a spin classroom. New restrooms have been built on both sides of the facility.

Pool and Fields

The school has been using Sinsheimer Pool for the past few decades. While that has been a great relationship with the city, it was time for the school to have their own facility on site. The pool was placed next to the newer gym, so that the locker rooms could be used. Unlike the Coast, this facility is focused on school use and is in the heart of the campus. The City of San Luis Obispo has the Sinsheimer Pool for community use, unlike the coastal cities. The baseball field was moved up to Taylor Field and a new practice field and new softball diamond were added next to the pool. Both the aquatics programs and physical education classes will be able to take advantage of this facility on campus.

Student Support Center/Performing Arts Space

In the past, you had to walk to the middle of campus to go to the office. Not only was this a major safety issue, it was also a pain for anyone visiting the school. The new Student Support Center was added to the front of the campus. With new security fencing installed, all visitors must come through this building to enter campus. It holds the administrative offices, counseling offices, staff room, school resource officer, attendance office, activities office, and records office. A new bus and parent turnaround were also added with this project.

At the back end of this building is a beautiful new state-of-the-art theater. We have come a long way from the small black box theater in the 100 Building. The new theater has back stage access, a sound room, and a dressing room. It will be one of the most used facilities on campus.

Tennis Courts

The tennis courts have been completely renovated. They were expanded to allow for CIF competition. New surfaces, fencing, and lights were installed. This facility is one of the most public used facilities in the district. It is available to the public at night and on the weekends when the school isn’t using it.

Track and Bleachers

The six lane dirt track at San Luis Obispo High was the last of its kind on the Central Coast. It was the only school left without a modernized track in the county. The track was replaced with a new nine lane synthetic track and new ADA accessible bleachers were installed. A new snack bar and restrooms were also built to replace outdated facilities.

Building 100

This is the main building on campus and is broken up into three areas. The old layout was: north end – science rooms, middle – office and library, south end – classrooms and theater.

The south end has been transformed into a new science wing. It includes a science teacher work area, student and staff restrooms, and science classrooms. This sequence allowed us to keep the old rooms available during construction of the new science wing.

The middle of the building is a new kitchen and multi-purpose room on the bottom floor. The upper portion of the building is three digital media labs, along with a broadcasting room. The rest of the upper portion is five new classrooms and new restrooms.

The North end of the building was modernized into a new library, career center, classrooms, and teacher work room.
